Campaign on One Man One Vote Through Electronic Voting System

November 16, 2017

Over a decade now, Glisten International Academy, Abuja Nigeria has constantly and consistently been at the fore-front of sustaining educational standard in Nigeria as one of the pace setters among other schools. Her vision is to develop and orientate the child’s mind towards productivity and to be of value to themselves, their immediate society and the world at large.

Glisten International Academy, Abuja is duty bound to raise nation builders that will influence our socio-cultural values in a positive way through service, commitment and selflessness. We operate a curriculum capable of accommodating all the emerging societal challenges and policy statement of the government towards a harmonious and peaceful co-existence among the comity of nations. Mentoring our students is our top-most priorities. Our students have always been shining ambassadors of their families, the school and Nigeria in academics and co-curricular activities around the world. We believe in the culture of discovering our students early and young. We believe also in the greatness and the processes of obtaining excellence.

As part of the culture of the school towards ensuring that students get acclimatized early enough to the Nigerian goals of becoming one of the developed countries of the world. We have initiated and internalized a ‘Voters Club and Society’ among other clubs in the school. This was designed as a way to curb and enlighten students on the dangers of electoral malpractices. Also, in use is the current Electronic Voting System which is in line with the policy of the immediate past Nigerian government to tackle electoral malpractices in the country.

Glisten as a school has adopted this excellent voting system in electing students into various positions of Students’ Parliament of the school. All the rudiments of electoral processes are duly observed under a close watch of Glisten’s Electoral Committee.  Since its inception, Parents and Guardians of the school have always been invited as external observers to ascertain the credibility of the Processes. We have recorded excellent and credible performance since it started in 2014. To this end, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has come to our school to support the existing campaign on ONE MAN – ONE VOTE through an electronic process.

This session’s election was a memorable one. It started a week before the mid-term break that began on the 15th of October, 2017. All interested candidates obtained their nomination forms and they were all screened by Glisten Electoral Committee and Top Management Team. The final list for qualified candidates required that they obtain permission and approval from their parents and also prepare their manifesto ahead the 20th October, 2017.

Four days to the 2017 Students Parliament election, candidates for various positions delivered their manifestoes. The Dee-day was on 9th November, 2017 and every aspect of the election went well as scheduled. All students and staff of the school exercised their civic rights closely monitored by selected top management team and the school security operatives.

On the 10th November, 2017 the result of the election was announced on the assembly ground and it was an exciting and a colourful event. The Executive Director of the school, Hajia Samira Jibri, who came around to witness this high moments of the election took pictures with all successful candidates and some top management team of Glisten International Academy.

We are using this medium to let the world know that our students understand their civic duties and responsibilities. They value it and have value for their rights as members of the school. We accommodate any observer both local and International in our subsequent elections. Here is the video of the 2017 Glisten International Academy, Abuja Electronic Voting System.
